Sunset Fisherman - Galveston, Texas
My family went fishing in Galveston several months ago. I came to the north side of the island to get a better sunset picture, and ended up taking pictures of the fisherman silhouettes. Fishing off the rocks and in the water is only allowed before dark. There were quite a few fisherman that entered the water at sunset to take advantage of the best fishing. The fish were jumping, but not in my photos.

Paris Père Lachaise Cemetery - Around the Curve
I spent several hours in this cemetery wondering up and down the hills. This is a typical curved, cobblestone path lined by small family mausoleums and surrounded by trees. This place is so peaceful.

Red Boat - Titusville, Florida
I had a chance to visit NASA to work on a white paper last year. One morning shortly after sunrise, I drove down to the Marina in Titusville, Florida. This red boat seemed to be one of a kind beside the neutrally colored ones.

California Coast - Point Honda
Point Honda is about a third of the way up from Los Angeles along the California coast. In 1923, 7 destroyers ran onto the rocks here in the fog resulting in the death of 23 sailors. You can just barely see some pieces of the ship a little south of where this photo was taken.

Signs - Hobbs New Mexico
Besides the official state signs mentioning the elevation, the little towns in southeastern New Mexico all seem to have a unique sign marking the city. These signs are a little more than what I see around Houston. I particularly liked this one of Hobbs.

Paris Père Lachaise Cemetery - Hidden Stairs
I spent several hours in this cemetery wondering up and down the hills. Off the main paths in the older part of the cemetery, you can find little hidden treasures like these stairs.

Land of the Sun Theater in Artesia, New Mexico
This is the Land of the Sun Theater in Artesia, New Mexico. It is one of the main hangouts on a Saturday night in this small town of 12,000. I like the lights how they light up the quaint Main Street. I remember this theater from my childhood visits, but I believe the lights have been freshly refurbished along with the rest of downtown.
Artesia is in the middle of the oil patch in southeastern New Mexico. It is home to the Navajo refinery, Yates Petroleum, a Federal Marshall training facility, and a thriving community of dairy producers. My mom grew up here, and lives here now along with her twin sister and my cousins' families. I have fond memories of this place when we visited Grandma's house. We complained about the smell from the refinery, and my mom would say it was the "smell of money". She also called it the perfume factory. I think I finally got a straight answer when I was in high school.

California Vineyard - Off the Beaten Path
I found this vineyard in California when taking a shortcut one weekend driving from Lompoc to Santa Maria, CA. I don't know the name of the vineyard. Its name was not posted like the vineyards in the close-by Santa Ynez valley. In Texas, people out in the country have ranches, and in California, people have vineyards.
